Ode to My Aerolatte

Sleek silver handle
designed for palm-fitting ease
above a whirling circular drill
delicate enough to elevate
everyday milk into frothy dollops,
creamy clouds, ready to cushion
the hot pour of rich espresso
into a halo of grace …

… aroma Italia
my morning cappuccino
and a warm-from-the-oven sfogliatella,
shell-shaped layered confection
with a belly full of sweet cream.

Oh, Aerolatte mine,
take me back to Pasticceria Belpassi
in Piazza Della Repubblica, Urbino, where
I am again Mediterranean meravigliosa
and Signora Maria says,
Buona giornata, Caterina!
Per lei, un caffe ed un dolce
perfetto.
