Elmer Season

 

Politically speaking,

the only thing I look forward to

is Elmer Season—

when both sides

tear down the signs

saying Duck Season

and Rabbit Season

and finally go after

the one who’s been shooting at us

all along.

 

 


Daniel W. Wright is a poet, editor, and fiction writer. Wright most recently released Gods of a Former World (Crying Heart Press, 2025) and The Unheard Music (Kung Fu Treachery Press, 2025). Wright is the author of ten collections of poetry, co-author of four poetry splits, and three works of prose. His work has appeared in numerous print and online journals such as 365 DaysGasconade Review, and Book of Matches. Wright currently resides in St. Louis, MO, where you can usually find him in a bar or a bookstore.
