Michael N. Thompson

CURTAIN CALL

The diner has closed

vinyl booths are empty

Roy Orbison

has stopped crooning

A dreamscape storyteller

who married art and noir

has ceased acting as a conduit

between the innocent and the damned

Although the surrealist

who walked in between Hitchcock’s footsteps

won’t peel back any more masks,

the color blue still equals distress

and barking dogs will be a bad omen

Our beloved auteur

smoked one last cigarette

before setting down the lens,

much to everyone’s chagrin

He entered his empire unencumbered

where dreams are codes

and doppelgangers reside
