Bobcat at first light
I woke far out this morning
out on the pinyon-studded desert
my moss green bag reeking
with the musky
acrid scent of cat
and she (this haughty queen)
standing
only a breath away
amber eyes
ablaze
dusky
ruff and
black tipped ears
stiff with purpose
locked righteous eyes on me
warned me
willed me
from her winter lair.
