Rails-To-Trails

An elected Somebody had the bright idea to pull
out all the old rusted Bessemer tracks, leaving
behind all the paths for the health-and-fitness crowd

to bike and jog. Our childhood secrets revealed: the best
lands in our country were hidden, owned by railroads
who jealously guarded them with signs forbidding entrance,

penalizing curiosity. Now everybody sees what was there
all along: river-islands and waterfalls, mountains and
groves. Maybe they will wonder what else is kept hidden?
